A look back at Xamarin Dev Days, Hengelo edition!

Last Saturday, July 22nd, we hosted the Hengelo edition of Xamarin Dev Days at Xablu headquarters! As an app company that is 100% focused on Microsoft Xamarin, this was a great chance for our team to share their experience and knowledge with developers who are just getting started with the platform.

Xamarin Dev Days are full-day training events designed by Xamarin and run by partners around the world, aimed at getting beginners building, testing, and connecting native iOS, Android, and Windows apps. They include a morning of training sessions followed by a hands-on lab assignment in the afternoon. We were very excited to join this global movement with an event in Hengelo, the Netherlands!

A morning deep-dive into Xamarin

The morning started out with a great mood, as enthusiastic developers began arriving from the Hengelo area and as far as Germany. After some time for coffee and networking, Xamarin Consultant Marc Bruins kicked off with an Introduction to Xamarin. This was followed by a session on Cross Platform UI with Xamarin.Forms, by Microsoft and Xamarin MVP Martijn van Dijk. After a well-deserved coffee break, participants then continued with a session on Connected Apps with Azure led by Senior Xamarin Developer Maurits van Beusekom.

Hands-on afternoon assignment, with a side of ice cream

After a lunch full of Xamarin discussions, Harry ten Berge got participants started on their assignment: building a connected app with Xamarin.Forms and Azure. Everyone took up the challenge, leading to an afternoon of intensive learning, with the XABLU team on hand to answer questions and guide the developers through the assignment. The hot July afternoon was also broken up by an impromptu ice cream session!

Upcoming hackathons and custom in-house training

Our team had a great time leading the Xamarin Dev Day, but as you may have heard, Xamarin is discontinuing the series at the end of 2017. However, we’ll be organizing plenty more Xamarin and MvvmCross community meetups and hackathons in the coming months!

We’re excited to announce that XABLU will be the official organizer of a Xamarin Dev Day at our headquarters in Hengelo, the Netherlands on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017. Our team has followed the growing popularity of these international training days online for some time, and we’ve been looking forward to the chance to host our own. We can’t wait to bring the event to our hometown!

What is a Xamarin Dev Day?

Xamarin Dev Days are one-day training events designed by Xamarin to give participants the knowledge they need to build a new app by the end of the day! The format is a series of three learning sessions in the morning, each led by a different expert, followed by a hands-on lab in the afternoon where developers will put their new skills to use. The agenda features the following sessions:

Introduction to Xamarin by Xamarin Consultant Marc Bruins
Cross Platform UI with Xamarin.Forms by Microsoft & Xamarin MVP Martijn van Dijk
Connected Apps with Azure by Senior Xamarin Developer Maurits van Beusekom
Hands-on lab: Build a connected app with Xamarin.Forms and Azure with Harry ten Berge

Xamarin Dev Days are organized by the Xamarin community all around the world – there will even be one taking place in Sydney, Australia on the same day as our event!

What will I learn?

Xamarin Dev Days are geared towards mobile app developers who are new to or just getting started with Xamarin, but developers at all levels of experience will learn something new, as each speaker will bring their own expertise and advice to the table. The morning will begin with an Intro to Xamarin session and quickly move towards the more advanced topics of Xamarin.Forms and Azure-connected apps. By mid-afternoon you’ll be deep into building your own Xamarin app!

Developers, you’re invited to the first Xamarin Dev Day in Hengelo, the Netherlands! Designed by Xamarin and run by experts in different locations around the world, Xamarin Dev Days are community driven, hands-on learning experiences geared towards beginner mobile developers to help build, test, and connect native iOS, Android, and Windows apps.

In this free, all-day training event, you’ll get the chance to enhance your knowledge of Xamarin, Xamarin.Forms and Azure and even build a new Xamarin.Forms application in the afternoon in a hands-on lab!

Each session will be led by a different expert from the XABLU team, letting you learn and get advice directly from industry-level practitioners.
